    Default Favorite rear-engined Renault?

I'd like to hear from those who have owned and/or driven the various rear-engined Renault models (Dauphine, R8/10, 4CV, Caravelle, etc) and can give some observations on which ones they liked the best and why.

Had a 1966 Caravelle in fine shape. Good for town driving, not for highway travel. Heater poor in cold Northeast. Car was a well preserved example, stopped well, handled well on dry pavement, slow acceleration.

    Good luck on your quest!

I have owned and driven Dauphines, Caravelles and R10s. If I had to pick one, it would be the Dauphine. Caravelles are fun for two but have a rust problem even in the west. R10s are fine, but the Dauphines will go anywhere (eventually), look cute and never get stolen.

My favorite Renault was my 1973 (R1313) R17, the year before they called it a Gordini. Great mileage, good looks and killer performance from a 1.6L engine.

8 Gordini 1300, goes well, handles OK for one of these pendulums on wheels and has a certain Q-ship character.

1255 R8 Gordini does it for me, right suspension setup makes this littel cars run like on rails. Right engine setup makes most bigger cars blush on drag style takeoffs.

The caravelle has always been my favorite for sheer styling's sake. It's not built for speed, but is remarkably fine on the road at moderate speeds. Actually drove it to a car show 60 miles away in the pouring rain at 60mph on the 101 fwy and it did very well. That being said, you get looks all day long driving it around town. Every time I stop at a light, the camera phones come out

Lol. Sent the last post from my eye phone, but forgot I had the spam tool for our forum set to replace that word. Should probably change
