    Default Proper tire size.

    Hello,

    On the Dauphines what is the proper size for tire? Are there any companies that you all recommend? Are they just like the old vw tire size 165/80R15? or smaller 145sr 15 or 135x15?

    I used some 165/15 for emergency to move the car.

    Let me know.

    Tony

    I was going through this the last few weeks, not finding anything locally less than 195/15, and then decided that since everything else I'm doing is basically original, I'm going with 5.60-15 bias ply tires.

    Hi;
    The 5,60X15 0r 165X15 is a VW tire and in a Dauphine it will damages bushings up front and the axle thrundon bearings at the rear
    The original tire is 135X15 , The biggest size tire would be 145 X15. No problem this last one coker tire has it.
    Good Luck

    I have several manuals.
    One says 5.60 (can't find it at the moment), this one says 5.5 x 15
    The Ika Renault (Argentina) says 5.0 x 15

    Hi;

    Yes , 5.0 X15 = 135 x 15, that as it comes original . The other are NOT recommended by Renault for the Dauphines.
    Thanks

    Thanks. It is hard to find information. One site says the 5.6 is 0.2% smaller diameter than the 5.0, which doesn't make much sense. The car actually has 5.60-15 tires on it, but they are probably 40 years old, as there is no tread and the car hasn't been driven in 30 years.

    Back to the drawing board, I've found some 135R15 in the UK that could be shipped. It does not appear to be a common size. Going to look for the importer of that brand here and see if he can add them to an order.

    I just purchased 5 135R15 tires on ebay. I think the originals were 145R15 but the 135 is like a vw uses. this is what was reccomended and i think i will be happy. It was also recomended by a local tire shop to put tubes in every one . just to be safe by the way a 135 is appx 1/8 to 1/4 inch shorter than a 145.

    The original size on all my manuals is 135-15 without any profile percentage. I bought mine because I wanted original. I was able to get the 135-15's in the US and forwarded to me on one of my ocean containers.

    Hi;
    VW Bettle uses 5;60 X15 = 165 X 15 .Renault recomend 135 X 15 which is 5:00 X 15 On dauphine you still can uses 145 X 15 if you want to go higher. VW tires are too big for the rear engine Renaults plus this tires will damage the suspension components way faster .

    Thanks
